Services / Paint Correction & Polishing
High end vehicles deserve more than a quick buff. At Shine Detailing LLC in Duson, Louisiana, I specialize in professional paint correction and polishing for luxury cars, exotic vehicles, and daily drivers alike. As a certified detailer, I remove years of swirl marks, scratches, and oxidation restoring your paint to a level that looks better than the day you drove it off the lot.
Paint correction is the process of removing surface imperfections from your vehicle's clear coat using machine polishers and professional grade compounds. These imperfections include swirl marks from improper washing, fine scratches, water spots, oxidation, and buffer trails. Unlike a simple polish or wax that fills and hides defects temporarily, paint correction permanently removes them leaving behind a truly flawless, deep, and glossy finish. It is the most thorough way to restore your vehicle's paint to its original brilliance.
Paint correction is necessary when your vehicle's paint looks dull, swirled, or covered in fine scratches that washing alone cannot fix. It is also highly recommended before applying ceramic coating or paint protection film, as coating over imperfections will permanently seal them in. If your car no longer has that deep, wet look gloss it once had, paint correction is the service that will bring it back. Louisiana's harsh sun and humidity can cause paint to oxidize faster making correction an essential step in any serious detailing plan.
Before starting paint correction, the vehicle must go through a full decontamination wash to remove all dirt, grease, and bonded surface contaminants. A paint thickness gauge is used to measure the clear coat and determine how much correction is safe. I then work panel by panel under professional lighting to identify and eliminate every imperfection. The process requires the right machine, the right pad, and the right compound for each specific defect there is no one size fits all approach. Every job I do is tailored to your vehicle's exact paint condition.

My Paint Correction & Polishing service is a complete, hands on process from start to finish. I personally inspect, decontaminate, and correct every panel of your vehicle using professional grade machines and compounds no shortcuts, no handoffs.
Polishing is a lighter process that enhances gloss and removes very minor surface imperfections. Paint correction is a more intensive multi stage process that permanently removes deeper scratches, swirl marks, oxidation, and water spots using machine polishers and cutting compounds. If your paint has visible defects, correction is what you need not just a polish.
Paint correction removes scratches and defects that are within the clear coat layer. If a scratch has gone through the clear coat and into the base coat or primer, it cannot be fully corrected through polishing alone. During the initial inspection I will assess every panel and give you an honest evaluation of what can and cannot be corrected.
Depending on the size of the vehicle and the severity of the paint defects, paint correction can take anywhere from 4 hours to a full day or more. A thorough, multi stage correction on a heavily swirled vehicle takes time and I never rush the process to meet a deadline.
Absolutely. Paint correction must be done before ceramic coating is applied. Ceramic coating seals and locks in whatever is on the surface if there are swirls and scratches underneath, they will be permanently visible under the coating. Correcting the paint first ensures your coating sits on a perfectly clean, flawless surface.
After paint correction, I strongly recommend following up with a ceramic coating or paint protection film to preserve the results long term. At minimum, use a pH-neutral shampoo for all future washes, avoid automatic car washes with brushes, and use proper microfiber wash mitts and drying towels to prevent new swirl marks from forming.
